When Fore Street Methodist Church in Brixham commenced an internal refurbishment, APi Communications were chosen to supply and install a comprehensive audio system complete with twin projection facility for easy worship.
The brief required a video display system that could be seen by any member of the congregation either seated on the ground floor where sight lines are compromised by the pillars supporting the gallery or in the gallery itself. In addition the Church wished to avoid any screen that would hide the central pulpit or the cross that is mounted centrally on the end wall.
By working in conjunction with the refurbishing team and the church architect, we were able to conceal all the audio and video distribution cables throughout the building and ensure that the final result was finished to a very high standard.
The sound comprises of eight low impedance speakers, in two groups of four with a digital delay applied to the rear group. An Allen and Heath 24 channel mixing desk stands above a discrete rack containing all radio microphone receivers and inaccessible hardware, with all accessible media located in a custom rack to one side of the operator for ease of use.
The twin projectors were mounted beneath the balcony and produce images onto a pair of screens mounted on our custom designed swinging arm mounts, these are designed to park along the gallery ledge, so as to be inconspicuous when not in use.
The new sound system is a major improvement on the previous installation, considerably more flexible and providing excellent sound quality. It also allows services to be recorded for circulation to house bound members of the congregation.
The system design admirably meets all requirements and has found favour with the congregation, many of whom were resistant to the idea of video projection.
